The society of Friends of Art (KPU) was established in Brno as a nationwide organisation on 14 th of January 1900.
It associated sections of : fine art, music, literature.
The most prominent members were : Max Svabinsky (graphic designer), Joza and Frantisek Uprka (painters), Jan Stursa (sculptor), Dusan Jurkovic (architect).
In years 1909 – 1911 was a leader Leos Janacek (harmonist).
KPU was an editor many of music publications of Leos Janacek.
KPU supported Leos Janacek in time of his conflict with National Theater in the beginning of 20 th century.
The activity was interrupted during the Second World War and following communist reign.

On 10 th of June 1993 was reestablished KPU that take up again on the activity from the beginning of 20 th century. It works with first with non-professional but with
professional artists too.
Most of members are young men but membership is not by the age restricted.
KPU associciate sections : fine art, music, theatre.
The registered office is in Brno.
Most of activities are in the Southmoravia, Middlebohemia regions and in the capitol Prague.
KPU have been arranging many of theatre and music festivals.
It is a member of International Assotiation of non-professional theatre AITA/IATA.
